Fallen Heroes Combat Boot Display

Prince St, Conway, AR

Fallen Heroes Combat Boot Display honoring Fallen Service Members from Arkansas since 9/11. Over 675 pairs of combat boots will stand in formation each with the picture, rank, name and year of death of a Service Member who died while serving our great country.

A short dedication ceremony will be held at 6 pm to recognize Gold Star Families Weekend - all across the state are invited to visit the display as it will be up over the weekend to allow everyone the opportunity to visit and walk among the boots.

The boot display will be set at the Veterans Plaza in Pompe Park located in Conway, Arkansas north of Prince Street between Morningside Drive and Kinley Trail.

Volunteers will be needed to help set up the display Friday morning, stand guard over the boots round the clock until Sunday afternoon when the display is taken down for storage. Sign up page in the comments!

2025 Arkansas Dark-Sky Festival

The 2025 Arkansas Dark-Sky Festival, hosted by the Arkansas Natural Sky Association, returns for another weekend under the stars!

This event will be two days & two nights alongside picturesque Bear Creek, just off Highway 65 south of the Buffalo River, an International Dark-Sky Park.

During the day, there will be presentations, hikes, and other activities for adults and children. Each night, we will rediscover the night sky as our ancestors knew it, complete with guided constellation tours and telescopic views of celestial objects under the Summer Milky Way.

Enjoy the beauty of Lake Fort Smith from a kayak. Take the opportunity to observe quiet coves, waterfalls, and wildlife available from the unique perspective a kayak. Flatwater kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets are provided. No previous paddling experience is necessary. A park interpreter will demonstrate the basics of kayaking and answer questions along the way. Participants must be at least 14 years old to paddle solo. Children under 6 are not permitted. Space is limited, so reservations are required by noon on the day of the tour. Contact the marina for reservations and payment. Wear clothes/shoes that can get wet. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and water are highly recommended.

The Learning Fields at Fort Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas will be hosting a Fig Tasting and Fig Plant Swap on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM.
This event has a $5 cover charge per person. Please RSVP for the event with this quick survey so we’ll know how many people and plants to expect: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/28HPRTM
This event is open to anyone who grows, or wants to grow, figs. However, no selling of plants or products is allowed. This is a free swap.
Attendees are encouraged to bring fig plants to swap as well as a few ripe figs from those varieties, if possible.
Start air layering your extra branches or rooting some cuttings by August 1so the new plants can be potted up and ready to share by September 28. Please label the plants that you bring with the variety, its flavor profile (berry, sugar, honey, etc), and your name.
The fig tasting and plant swap will begin at 2 PM. Tours of the Fig Trial will begin at 3 PM.

When the area known as Petit Jean State Park was set aside as a public land in 1923, it set precedent for the establishment of state parks in Arkansas. Meet a park interpreter at the Seven Hollows trailhead to hike to the Natural Bridge. This is the area that first inspired the creation of the state park. Learn about the history as well as the unusual geology of the area. This is 2 ½-miles long and will take about 2 hours. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water!
