The Northeast Arkansas Humane Society’s annual Holiday Pet Photos are scheduled for November 17, 18 and 22, at the Jonesboro Shooting Sports Complex, 3702 Moore Road in Jonesboro with Joey Glaub as the photographer. All pets should be on leashes or in carriers.
Appointments can be made by calling or texting 870-897-5258 and scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Monday, November 17, and Tuesday, November 18, & from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 22. Please do not contact the NEAHS shelter or the Shooting Sports Complex.
Photographs will again be offered in digital format only. For $35 per pose, pet owners can choose one image from their online proofs and receive a copyright-released file emailed to them.
Don't have a pet? You can have human photos made during this event too!

Join the Mount Ida Area Chamber of Commerce for our annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest on the Courthouse Square! Whether you’re representing a business, family, or group of friends, this is your chance to show off your creativity and holiday spirit.
Here’s how it works:
Bring your own tree (4–6 feet tall).
Decorate by Friday, November 28.
Trees must be securely decorated (zip ties work great!) and removed by December 31.
Voting: $1 per vote — vote as many times as you like!
Participation is FREE and open to both businesses and individuals.
The winner takes home the Traveling Trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights!
All proceeds support the MIACC Community Service Scholarship, awarded each spring to a local student.

Winter Workshop Series - Stargazing 101

Meeting Place: Petit Jean's Gravesite Overlook
Join a park interpreter for a special evening under the stars at Petit Jean State Park. November is one of the best months for stargazing, with crisp air and longer nights revealing some of the brightest constellations of the year. We’ll begin with a guided tour of the night sky—learning how to spot Orion the Hunter, Taurus the Bull, the Pleiades star cluster, and more. You’ll also hear the legends and stories behind these constellations and get tips on how to use a star chart to continue exploring on your own. If the night is clear, we may even catch a few meteors from the Leonids meteor shower!
Bring a blanket or lawn chair for comfortable viewing, and don’t forget warm layers for the chilly night air. This program will last about one and a half hours and take place at Stout’s Point, one of the park’s best overlooks for enjoying the night sky. This program is free, but sign up is required by the Wednesday before the event by calling the visitor center at (501) 727-5441 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Reaching the highpoint provides more than just bragging rights- it provides a sense of home and habitat! Join a park interpreter for a hike to the highest point in Arkansas. Seasonally appropriate attire, drinking water, sturdy hiking shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen (although this hike is very shaded), are all highly recommended. We will meet at the lodge lobby for this moderately difficult hike up and down Signal Hill.
