Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest financial decisions a family will ever make.

It involves contracts, inspections, appraisals, lenders, negotiations, and a lot of important paperwork.

Now imagine trying to navigate all of that in a language that is not your first.

For many Spanish-speaking families, that’s the reality.

At Live Love Arkansas Realty, we believe every client deserves to fully understand the process and feel confident in every decision they make. That’s why we’re proud to have a team of bilingual Realtors who serve the Spanish-speaking community with clarity, care, and strong representation.

We recently sat down with the members of our Spanish-speaking team to talk about their experiences, why this work matters to them, and how being bilingual helps their clients succeed in real estate.

Why Spanish-Speaking Realtors Matter in Real Estate

Real estate transactions involve many moving parts.

Buyers and sellers often work with:

  • Lenders

  • Home inspectors

  • Appraisers

  • Title companies

  • Insurance agents

  • Other real estate professionals

When language barriers exist, misunderstandings can happen quickly.

That’s why having a bilingual Realtor who can communicate both with the client and with the professionals involved in the transaction is so valuable.

As Realtor Karina Oliva explained to us:

“Being bilingual allows me to explain every step clearly in my client’s preferred language. That reduces confusion and stress. From understanding contracts to discussing timelines, clients feel more confident because nothing gets lost in translation.”

She also pointed out something many people don’t realize.

“Real estate involves many professionals. If I can communicate directly with lenders, inspectors, and title companies in Spanish, I can clarify information, catch potential issues early, and keep everything moving smoothly.”

Growing Up Translating Real Life

For several members of our team, translating important information for family members started long before real estate.

Sheyla Solis shared that her experience began in childhood.

“My parents are Hispanic and they can’t really read English unless it’s very simple,” she told us. “Growing up, my siblings and I were always translating things like legal documents, contracts, and medical visits.”

As she got older, that responsibility became hers.

“So translating real estate contracts is really nothing new for me,” she said with a smile.

But the impact goes deeper than translation.

“I grew up hearing people say they wanted to buy a home or make other big decisions, but they didn’t because no one explained the process to them or told them about programs that could help.”

Helping people understand those opportunities is one of the things that motivates her most.

“Even informing one person at a time can make a difference.”

Originally from León, Guanajuato, Sheyla enjoys baking, spending time outdoors, and being with loved ones when she’s not working with clients.

Helping Families Achieve a Dream

For Tommy Cohen, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing families reach a goal they once thought was impossible.

“I enjoy being part of a dream coming true,” she said.

“For many families, owning a home once felt out of reach. Watching them accomplish that goal and knowing I helped guide them there is incredibly rewarding.”

Tommy focuses heavily on communication with her clients.

“I walk them through every step of the process so they understand what’s happening. When people understand what’s going on, they move forward with peace of mind.”

When we asked what values guide her work, her answer was clear.

“Integrity. I believe in being honest, even when it’s not the easiest conversation. My job is to protect my clients and help them make strong decisions.”

Understanding the Process - Because They’ve Lived It

Several of our agents understand firsthand how challenging the process can feel when English is not your first language.

Lourdes Loaeza experienced that personally when she purchased her own home.

“When I bought my house, I didn’t speak English,” she shared. “It was difficult because communication was limited. There were things about the process I didn’t even know to ask.”

That experience shaped the way she serves her clients today.

“I explain every contract so my clients know exactly what they’re signing and what their rights are,” she said.

Her message to Spanish-speaking families considering homeownership is simple.

“Don’t worry. I will guide you through the process and explain every step. I’m here with you until you receive the keys.”

Lourdes, who is originally from Guerrero, Mexico, loves spending time with her large extended family, attending church, and enjoying coffee with friends.

Real Estate Works Differently in the United States

One challenge Spanish-speaking clients sometimes face is that real estate processes can look very different from what they’re used to in other countries.

Realtor Lizet Rodriguez helps clients navigate those differences.

“For example, many people misunderstand earnest money,” she explained.

Some clients believe it is the same as a down payment, while others think they will automatically lose it.

“I explain that earnest money shows commitment and that it usually goes toward closing costs or the down payment,” she said. “There are also contingencies that protect that money under certain conditions.”

She also takes time to explain the difference between down payments and closing costs, which can surprise some buyers.

Lizet enjoys coffee, traveling, spending time in nature, and thrifting — sometimes all in the same day.

Turning Personal Experience Into Purpose

For Stephanie Arana, serving Spanish-speaking families is deeply personal.

“My parents are Spanish-speaking, and growing up my siblings and I often became their translators,” she told us.

They translated school paperwork, bills, medical appointments, and contracts.

“At the time we did the best we could,” she said. “But looking back, we didn’t always understand the terminology ourselves.”

That experience left a lasting impression.

“Today, when I help Spanish-speaking families understand important decisions like buying a home, it means everything to me.”

Her mission is simple: “Understanding isn’t a luxury. It’s a right.”

Creating Confidence Through Clear Communication

For Carla Cantu, helping clients feel comfortable asking questions is one of the most important parts of the job.

“It’s not just about speaking Spanish,” she explained.

“It’s about making sure clients feel comfortable enough to ask questions without feeling embarrassed, and that they clearly understand every step.”

She reassures clients who worry that language might hold them back.

“Language should never stop someone from achieving something as important as owning their home,” she said.

When she’s not helping clients, Carla enjoys being outdoors and spending time in nature.
