FRIDAY, MAY 15 AT 11 AM - SUNDAY, MAY 17 AT 12 PM
The Waterfall Basecamp: A 3-Day Beginner’s Backpacking Retreat
Richland Creek Wilderness
Ready to trade the screen for waterfalls?
Join The Guided Grit Academy for a 3-day, 2-night beginner-friendly backpacking trip to one of the most stunning spots in the Natural State: Twin Falls. If you’ve wanted to try backcountry camping but felt intimidated by the "what ifs," this is for you. This isn't just a hike; it’s a hands-on workshop where we’ll turn trail anxiety into total confidence. Guided by a certified Search & Rescue (SAR) professional, you’ll learn the skills to navigate, camp, and thrive - all while enjoying a "vacation mindset" with a group of like-minded souls.
The Game Plan:
Day 1: Meet & Prep
* 11:00 AM: We’ll kick things off at a local favorite, Johnny’s Ice Cream & Deli in Russellville. Over lunch (self-pay), we’ll dive into the map, go over the "Critical Decision Points" of our route, and get to know the crew.
* 12:30 PM: Carpool/Caravan to the trailhead.
* 1:30 PM Trailhead: Before we take a single step, we’ll do a Full Gear Check. I’ll show you how to balance your pack so it feels lighter and walk you through our safety rules so everyone feels 100% secure.
* 2:15 PM: begin 2.5 mi hike to our Basecamp on top of Twin Falls. (if our group is too large we may take a larger campsite just to the west)
Day 2: The Experience
* Basecamp Life: We’ll set up a home base near the falls. You’ll learn how to choose the perfect campsite, filter water like a pro, and master "Leave No Trace" ethics.
* Skill Sessions: Between soaking in the views, we’ll have mini-workshops on navigation, fire-starting, and what to do if things go sideways (SAR secrets!).
Day 3: The Return:
* We’ll hike back out on Day 3 after lunch, leaving the woods with more grit and better stories than we started with.
Physical Rating: Challenging but Doable
Level: Beginner+
While this is a "Beginner" trip in terms of skills, the terrain in the Richland Creek Wilderness is rugged. There are no official marked trails, which means we will be navigating over rocks, through brush, and performing at least two creek crossings.
* The Difficulty: It is physically demanding but 100% doable for anyone with a base level of fitness and a "can-do" attitude.
* The Reward: You will be seeing parts of Arkansas most people never reach. We move at a "leader’s pace"- no one gets left behind.
What to Pack (The Checklist)
Leadership will provide group gear (stoves, water filtration) and professional-grade SAR First Aid Kits. You are welcome to bring your own gear/kits if you'd like to practice using them under professional supervision!
The Essentials:
* Pack: 40L–65L Backpack.
* Sleep System: Tent (with rainfly), Sleeping Bag (rated to 40°F or lower), and Sleeping Pad.
* Clothing: Synthetic or wool layers (No Denim!). Bring a rain jacket/poncho and a warm "puffy" layer for camp.
* Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots (broken in!) and a pair of water shoes/sandals for creek crossings.
* Lighting: Headlamp with extra batteries.
* Water: At least 2 Liters of carrying capacity (SmartWater bottles work great).
* Food: 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and high-energy snacks.
STOP! PLEASE READ: If you don't have gear yet, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING until you message me! I can help you find budget-friendly options or tell you what is worth the investment. Let’s make sure you get the right gear the first time. Also, for a 100% checklist.
The Vibe:
Think "rugged but refined." We aren't here to wrestle bears; we’re here to enjoy the Ozarks safely. Whether you’re a total newbie or have a few miles under your belt, you’ll leave feeling trail savvy, gear ready, and empowered.
Ready to secure your spot? Send a DM to get started!

At the end of the tournament, all of the balls will be rolled out onto the 9th green toward the pin. Whichever golfer's ball goes in the pin or is closest wins the prize. Golfers can pay to have as many balls placed in the bucket as they want. Of course the more balls they have in the bucket, the better the chances they have of winning.

Regular admission fees apply, free for museum members
As America celebrates 250 years as a nation, we are taking lines from the Declaration of Independence as inspiration for our programming. In May, we will examine the phrase “Wholesome and necessary for the public good.”
What laws and moral philosophies guided life in Antebellum Arkansas? How did Arkansans help their neighbors and support charitable causes?
You can take on the role of an early resident of Arkansas as you find work, sell resources, buy goods, find ways to help your neighbors and learn new skills as part of this fun and experiential event.

The Rock City Film Festival - From Local to SAG: Arkansas Actors in the Industry
We’re bringing together Arkansas-based actors who have built their careers on major film and television productions.
They will break down how they get auditions, prepare, and what happens once you step onto a professional set.
You will hear honest insight on booking roles, handling rejection, and staying consistent in a competitive field.
This conversation focuses on real experiences, not theory. If you want to act or want a clear view of how the industry works, this panel gives you practical answers from people doing the job
right now. Our guests will be Mary Faulkner, Raeden Greer, Barry Clifton and Jason Scott Morgan.
Mary Faulkner Turriff grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where she studied Theater. Upon the advice of fellow Arkansan Mary Steenburgen, Mary spent a summer studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. After graduating from Northwestern, Mary moved to Los Angeles, California. Her first job was as a production assistant to Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason on their network TV shows Evening Shade, Hearts Afire, and Women of the House. Mary’s acting career began with a role on Days of our Lives. She went on to act on the primetime shows Melrose Place, Gilmore Girls, Mind of Mencia, Relativity, Providence, Judging Amy, and Once & Again. Mary also studied with the improv troop the Groundling’s and appeared in improv and comedy sketches at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. She was a member of the award winning theater company, Actor’s Co-op. Some of her favorite stage roles include Nina in “The Seagull” which was nominated for Best Production of the Year in Los Angeles and Phebe in William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” Film roles in Los Angeles include Slackers, The Falls, and Ladies Room. Upon moving back to the South, Mary’s film credits include The Brian Banks Story, Poor Mama’s Boy, Betrayed by My Bridesmaid, Discontentment of Ed Telfair, Patient Justice, God’s Not Dead 2, Justitia, Good Time Charley and The Birthday Bully, as well as several 48 hour films. Mary has appeared in many commercials as well. In addition to acting, she has also been a judge for the 48 hour film festival and served as a panelist representing actresses for the 48 Hour Film International Film Festival. As the mother of a young adult cancer survivor, Mary speaks at events sharing her family’s story and advocating for cancer survivors and caregivers. Mary stays active with competitive tennis as well.
Raeden Greer is a filmmaker and actress known for her recurring role as Kathy Bates' daughter on American Horror Story: Coven, appearing on NCIS: New Orleans, and playing supporting roles in both independent and big-budget studio films, holding her own onscreen alongside heavyweight actors like Will Ferrell, Forest Whitaker, Abigail Breslin, and Stephen Dorff.
Barry Clifton began his journey in the performing arts by studying Musical Theatre at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith at the age of thirteen. At the ripe old age of seventeen, he took a detour from his theatrical aspirations to join the United States Marine Corps, where he served until 1981. After his honorable discharge, Clifton spent several years traveling a long and winding road exploring various paths before life, as it tends to do, led him back to his first love, and he rediscovered his passion for acting in 1991.
In recent years, Barry has made notable appearances in both film and television, including God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness, Yellowstone, The Thing About Pam, General Hospital, Hellfire, and Sovereign. Clifton's most recent release is Taylor Sheridan's newest project, The Madison, with Michelle Pfeiffer, et al. He has also given back generously through WeAudition, helping over 3,800 fellow actors with their auditions, believing one should lift as they climb.
Throughout his career, Barry Clifton has drawn on a life lived fully, and occasionally sideways, to bring authenticity and humanity to every role. His journey through various life adventures has not only shaped him as an individual but also enhanced his ability to bring authenticity to his roles. He continues to look forward to whatever the industry throws at him next and is appreciative of the varied experiences that have informed his acting career.
Jason Scott Morgan is an Arkansas-based film and TV actor with a background in local theater. His notable stage roles include Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" (Argenta Contemporary Theatre), R.P. McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" (The Weekend Theater), and Bogs Diamond in "The Shawshank Redemption" (The Studio Theatre).
Jason’s on-screen credits include network television on Chicago P.D. and feature films alongside actors such as Harvey Keitel, Nick Offerman, Stephen Lang, Theo Rossi, and Michael Shannon. He appears in the upcoming "Cape Fear" on Apple TV, and has just wrapped filming on "King Snake", written and directed by ACS co-founder Jeff Nichols.
