FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27 FROM 12:10 PM - 1 PM
Noonday Prayer
1610 Prince St, Conway, AR
In order to set aside more time for prayer during the season of Lent, Conway First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince Street, Conway, will offer a service of Noonday Prayer at 12:10 p.m. each Friday from February 20 through March 27, 2026.
Each of these meditative services lasts approximately 30 to 40 minutes, and includes, besides the customary prayers, a brief lesson from Scripture, the recitation of Psalm 11, and one congregational hymn.
Central to our Lenten Noondays is an opportunity for private prayer and contemplation. Each week, an organist from Central Arkansas will play three works from the repertoire which are especially conducive to personal reflection, prayer, and introspection. Each service of this year’s Lenten Noonday Prayer series, entitled So purer light shall mark the road that leads me to the Lamb”, will express one of six weekly seasonal themes: The Challenge of Penitence, Responding with Faith, Journeying with the Holy Trinity, Psalms Hymns and Spiritual Songs, Living as Members of Christ’s Body, and The New Commandment.
This is the fifth year to offer Noonday Prayer on Fridays of Lent at FUMC. Adding this valuable spiritual practice to our observance of the fasting time has been a blessing, not only to our own parishioners, but also to many in the Conway and Central Arkansas communities who have also incorporated these meaningful opportunities for prayer into their personal Lenten discipline, some traveling considerable distances to be with us on Fridays.
All are welcome.
For more information, please contact Jason Saugey, FUMC, Conway Director of Music (jason@conwayfumc.org).

Author Talk: Abby Burnett - “Though Silent They Speak”
401 W Mountain St, Fayetteville, AR
Author Abby Burnett will discuss her new book on the most unusual graves and graveyards in Arkansas, followed by a book signing opportunity.
Historian and author Abby Burnett's new book is a fascinating and informative guide to unusual graves and graveyards in Arkansas. Burnett explores marble monuments in city cemeteries and haunting carvings and inscriptions discovered in isolated, rural graveyards, while telling the stories behind these burials. She also discusses the wide variety of materials used to create markers, the styles of grave coverings common prior to the Civil War, practical advice on understanding tombstone symbolism and fraternal lodge emblems, using noninvasive methods to photograph and clean headstones, and other hands-on advice for extracting maximum information from a tombstone. Her stories include biographies of the murderers, accident victims, seers, and circus workers, among other colorful characters, buried in the graves. A don't-miss event for cemetery enthusiasts as well as historians, genealogists, and anyone interested in Arkansas's rich history.
